The Donor Development Lead will create and implement a fundraising plan to help Gem City Kitties (GCK) grow as a new non-profit in the Dayton area. As a small organization, the Donor Development Lead will report directly to the GCK Board of Directors and work closely with the Gem City Catfe staff for coordination. Gem City Kitties is looking for someone that enjoys building programs and working collaboratively with a team to find unique solutions.

$10/hour with ability to set schedule as preferred. Will require occasional nights and weekends for certain events. This position will start part-time but have the option to grow to full-time if desired and financially viable.


At least 21 years of age and high school diploma or GED required. Bachelor or Master degrees a plus. 3+ years preferred in either donor development, fundraising, sales, customer acquisition, or any other related field. Must have a deep concern for the humane treatment and compassionate care of animals but prior animal care or adoption experience are not required.


  • Develop and execute GCK annual fundraising plan

  • Secure financial support from individuals, foundations, and corporations

  • Implement a donor management system

  • Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with major donors or sponsors

  • Seek grants including researching, writing, submitting, and providing follow up data

  • Coordinate with Gem City Catfe Events Manager to host special events

  • Develop and track proposals for all foundation and corporate fundraising

  • Create and execute a strategy for a large sustained base of annual individual donors

  • Cultivate relationships with all donors, ensuring they feel valued and appreciated

  • Make public appearances and accept speaking engagements to share information with the community


  • Must be able to pass a background check

  • Tetanus inoculation and rabies (pre-exposure) inoculations highly encouraged

  • Work is performed in a shelter, office, and outdoor environment

  • Bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, lifting 20 lb items, and use of stairs required while performing job function especially for events

  • Exposure to cleaning agents, allergens, and zoonotic disease

  • Subject to work weekends and holidays and outside in a variety of weather for events

  • Subject to exposure of animal bites and scratches

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office – specifically Word and Excel

  • Proficiency in G-Suite – specifically Gmail, Google Drive


  • Must be highly organized and able to use consistent systems to maintain order.

  • Exceptional work ethic with excellent interpersonal and planning skills. Ability to exercise independent judgment as appropriate and to work independently with little direct supervision.

Will be required to communicate effectively with the public, business owners, Gem City Catfé staff, and vendors.
