Gem City Catfé opened January 2, 2018 after a year of construction on our historic building located in St. Anne’s Hill Historic District. Our property, built in 1885, was originally a side by side duplex and had some commercial use throughout the years, including a plumbing supply store. Our new layout features three areas: the cat lounge, the cafe seating, and the upstairs art gallery space. We have separate air systems for the cat lounge so that even people with allergies can visit.

Gem City Catfe was started to advocate for rescue cats and animal welfare with a new approach. We wanted to create an approachable and enjoyable atmosphere that would be welcoming to those new to the rescue scene as well as educational for others looking to get more involved. Our cat lounge is home to 18 adoptable, feline friends from our 501(c)(3) non-profit rescue partner, Gem City Kitties.

Our full service espresso bar which serves fair trade coffee, tea, bakery items as well as wine and cocktails. [See our full menu here]. We also have a separate art gallery with additional seating upstairs with plenty of large tables to spread out and for activities like coffee brewing courses, TNR Certification workshops, and available for private rentals.

HOW the lounge works

The cat lounge is fully separated from the cafe side by two doors. You can still watch the cats play through the glass if you're in a hurry or have a coffee on the cafe side if you have allergies. To visit the cat lounge, we suggest reservations, but we do accept walk-ins if we have space!

WHY A CAT CAFE

In the united states:

  • 3.4 million cats enter animal shelters each year

  • 1.4 million cats are euthanized

  • 70 million cats are strays or ferals

we can make a difference.

Cat cafés create win-win situations. People get a super cool place to hang out with cats. Cats are able to avoid being in a shelter, socialize, and find families.

Our rescue partner

Gem City Kitties is a 501(c)(3) non-profit created to partner with Dayton's Cat Café, Gem City Catfé. Together, both organizations work to improve the lives of cats in Dayton. We collaborate with local rescues and shelters to help find homes for cats in need, as well as educate about spay and neuter and care for community cats.
