JOB SUMMARY:  Gem City Catfe is seeking an organized and positive person for the role of Community Coordinator to organize events and manage community relations for Dayton’s cat café. The right individual is passionate about animal welfare, improving the community, and working with a team to maximize efforts.

The Community Coordinator position involves being the manager on duty at times, due the nature and timing of special events. This position enforces all procedures in the absence of the Store Manager and Assistant Manager. In this role, standard Purrista duties will be accomplished through customer service on the coffee bar, cat care, and adoption counseling. The Community Coordinator will work closely with the Store Manager to manage the Catfé’s internal and external events and be the point of contact for any interested parties. Internally, the Events Manager will ensure the Catfe’s upstairs event space is fully utilized by networking with new partners and scheduling, booking, and tending to events. Externally, the Events Manager will coordinate Catfé attendance at community events.

WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR: The right candidate has strong organizational skills, great customer service, and is able to communicate clearly with both the team and our customers. Event experience isn't required but the above skills and core competencies must be shown through work history. 

PAY + SCHEDULE: Full time [30 - 40 hours] starting at $10/hour. When working as the manager on duty, this position does tip share. 

EVENTS MANAGEMENT: Works with the Store Manager to achieve the following standards, taking responsibility and communicating clearly:

  • Coordinate details of internal and external events including but not limited to the following examples: TNR certification classes, art classes, yoga classes, book club, First Fridays events, Third Sundays, conferences, charity events, and sales or business meetings
  • Develop, prepare, implement and manage all events
  • Coordinate and execute details, relationships and opportunities necessary to ensure a successful event
  • Work with leadership team to ensure events are aligned with the mission and strategic plan and will ensure efficiency, quality and growth of revenue outcomes 
  • Work with leadership team and staff to increase public awareness of Gem City Catfé and its event services 
  • Maintain events calendar on Gem City Catfé website and assist customers with purchasing tickets online for events


  • Pro-active in solving customer problems and satisfying customers in various situations
  • Consistently provides customers with efficient and friendly, superior service
  • Maintains high cleanliness and sanitization standards consistently throughout the store in the areas of store appearance, merchandise and equipment
  • Reports all customer complaints to manager on duty
  • Answers telephone and/or email in a courteous and professional manner and answers customer questions


  • Remains educated on our products and services, by developing an understanding of our various types of coffee, tea products, blends and roasts
  • Consistently maintains the highest quality product standards
  • Follows all Company drink recipes and procedures
  • Greets all customers with fast, friendly, personalized service and develops a rapport with customers by learning their names, favorite drinks and food items
  • Accurately rings sales orders into POS and counts back change to customers in a courteous and friendly manner
  • Conduct daily opening/closing operations, such as stocking supplies, and maintaining a clean and tidy atmosphere
  • Ensure proper functioning of equipment and checking dates and time of food and beverage supplies for quality control


  • Feed, water, groom, medicate, and provide enrichment and exercising of onsite cats
  • Clean and disinfect animal kennels, floors, walls, litter boxes, toys, and dishes
  • Wash, dry, and fold laundry
  • Maintain cat areas to be free of animal waste and debris consistently throughout the day
  • Identify and report problems or concerns to Cat Care Manager
  • Be alert and identify signs of animal illnesses or injuries
  • Input animal data into CRM
  • Provide helpful and educational guidance to potential adopters in a friendly, positive manner while promoting responsible pet ownership
  • Provide behavior and health information about each individual adoption candidate ·
  • Maintain cat lounge areas as clean and tidy
  • Process adoptions and maintain all adoption records and paperwork in orderly fashion

TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT: Works with the Store Manager to achieve the following standards, taking responsibility and communicating clearly:

  • Assists in executing effective retention programs with the Store Manager to ensure high team member job satisfaction and retention
  • Counsels team members, assists in team member training efforts, and offers corrections when necessary
  • Perpetuates company philosophy and culture
  • Delegates duties as necessary
  • Schedules breaks as necessary


  • Must have a deep concern for the humane treatment and compassionate care of animals
  • Maintains store as if the Store Manager / Assistant Manager were present
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must have valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  • Runs errands, when needed, to pick up supplies and/or product
  • Work special events 
  • Maintains positive Company morale and professional attitude
  • Must be able to work independently and in a team environment and be an enthusiastic self-starter, highly creative and innovative in designing and planning
  • Detail-oriented and personable, with strong organizational and scheduling skills and a talent for interpersonal savvy
  • Must be able to work overtime, as needed
  • Excellent verbal and written skills
  • Ability to keep calm demeanor and work under pressure during peak business hours
  • Regularly required to stand for long periods of time
  • Regularly required to lift and/or move items up to 30 pounds
  • Regularly required to handle food and hot beverages
  • Must be comfortable with all breeds, sizes, and temperaments of on-site cats and willing to assist with handling and restraint of on-site cats
  • Will require exposure of cleaning agents and exposure to possible animal scratches or bites when handling animals
